Patently Apple reported that the US Patent and Trademark Office have published several new patents for Apple recently including two patents of Micro LED chip transferring and structure and one related to a head-mounted system with a holographic element.
The first patent of Micro LED transferring, titled Micro LED Display, described a Micro LED structure with a metallization layer between a bonding layer and the micro p-n diode, as well as a conformal dieletric barrier layer. The structure of Micro LED enables a phase change during chip transferring and enable Micro LED chip bonding on a receiving substrate.

The two patents explained the structure of Micro LED incorporating the metal layer enables further transferring and assembling onto targeted receiving substrate. These patents demonstrated a technology breakthrough for one of the most challenging production process of Micro LED display.
Apple was also granted with a patent related to head-mounted system like smart glasses consist of optical components that can project holographic images. According to Apple, the holographic projection system on smart glasses could be used as part of “driver assistance system.”
Apple has been accelerating its progress in AR technology including software and devices development. The adopting of Micro LED display might also be integrated with Apple’s AR development.
