Epistar will also start producing VCSELs for Apple’s iPhone and other smartphones in 2Q18. Foreign investors expects it will push up the company’s annual sales.

According to a recent report from a foreign security company, the demand for VCSEL wafers will turn strong. Wafer manufacturers with advanced MOCVD systems are gearing up for big orders. In particular, Epistar is expected to benefit from the increasing demand.

Epistar might begin to manufacture 6-inch VCSEL wafers for the iPhone in 2Q18. It is also projected to start offering some of the production to Android phones in 2H18.

The revenue VCSEL will create for Epistar this year is estimated to be 3% of the overall revenue and by 2019 the percentage would surge to 11%.  Foreign investors seems optimistic about Epistar’s VCSEL business.

As for the blue LED business, due to the fact that San’an Optoelectronics has lowered prices of its mainstream lighting products, Epistar decided to reduce its dependency on the Chinese lighting market and instead focus on the filament markets in Europe and the United States.

The AlInGaP LED business of Epistar is anticipated to witness continuous growth, while the revenue growth of its blue LED business for 2018 is likely to level off, compared to the prior year period. Investors will keep an eye on Epistar’s performance in the VCSEL and Mini LED markets.

Epistar recently updated that the Mini LED products for gaming monitors it is now working on will be rolled out earlier. Originally scheduled to be out in 2019, those products will be released in 2H18 in accordance with requests from the company’s customers.
