Garden City Hall has injected about $4,000 to replace much of its old lighting to LED for cost and energy saving.
The new lights bring the wattage down to 90 watts per lamp, from 461 watts per lamp with the old lights. SimplyLEDs, the Garden City-based LED light manufacturing company , replaced several indoor and all of the outdoor lights at City Hall, including in the wall sconces, flag pole and parking lot.
Colin Schmidt, director of public works for the city, said that,"It can cost up to $80 just to replace one outdoor light bulb in our parking lot. The energy and maintenance savings [mean expenses will be recouped in] well under three years."
Additionally, Garden City Council President Mike Moser also thought highly of the retrofit, "It was evident that the LED lights were brighter and more attractive than the previous old technology."
