Hon Hai will develop a kind of high-precision OLED panels which are designed for the current popular smartphones and tablets with narrow frames, and it plans to start mass production in 2015, report sources. According to the sources, Innolux Display Group, the third biggest panel plant in the world, is subordinate to Hon Hai. Thus, the entrance of Hon Hai into OLED panel market may also intensify the market competition.

According to the report, Hon Hai will be using a more efficient OLED production mode to improve its competitiveness, compared with current OLED production methods by existing manufacturers. Initially, Hon Hai will be supplying OLED panels for Mainland Chinese manufacturers. Apple, Hon Hai’s largest client might adopt OLED panels in the next three years, so the Taiwan’s company’s entry into the OLED sector might be a preparatory move to supplying OLED panels to Apple. To catch up with competitor Samsung Electronics, which is already mass producing OLED panels, Hon Hai will be developing 350ppi OLED pixel panels in the preliminary stage before improving resolution to 450ppi.
