This week, GE Lighting made an important announcement to its employees regarding its changing market strategy in Asia and Latin America, and the company’s redirecting focus to its more profitable regional markets and products.
Asian companies are also picking up on patent infringement lawsuits this year, Epistar has filed a U.S. patent infringement lawsuit against Adamax for violating several of its LED chips and LED package designs. Korean LED manufacturer Seoul Semiconductor announced a major win against Japanese lens maker Enplas in U.S. courts, which decided it should receive US $4 million for damages.
Lastly, as Europe rolls out its halogen phase out as of Sept. 1, 2016, Philips Lighting and Osram’s former general lighting business LEDVANCE cover the extent and impact of the phase out.
With a lot of market hype surrounding Apple’s upcoming OLED iPhone in the past year, Innolux surprisingly commented this might just be a temporary solution before micro-LEDs are ready for mass production. So which next generation display technology will have the final laugh in the end? We’ll just have to wait and see.
