Hudson Valley Lighting® Introduces Extensive 2013 Offerings, Topping over 150 New Products

Includes First-Ever LED series, Enhanced Detailing and Second Generation of Portable Fixtures—Affirming Brand’s Legacy as a Force To Be Reckoned

Hudson Valley Lighting®, premier U.S. manufacturer of classic and transitional lighting fixtures with roots in historic and decorative design, presents one of its largest and most prolific collections yet. The expansive collection, which debuted officially at the 2013 Dallas Buyers Market in Dallas, includes scores of new lighting families and products, exceeding expectations with exquisite pendants, chandeliers, sconces and flush-mount fixtures as well as floor and table lamps.

As anticipated, the 2013 collections adhere to Hudson Valley Lighting’s dedicated mantra of: impeccable craftsmanship, full-metal castings and fine detailing in beautifully-made original designs. This season, Hudson Valley Lighting ventures into new territory by presenting historically-inspired, decorative LED lighting, infused with state-of-the-art technology. Also, detailing has been turned up a notch with unexpected enhancements such as silk and fabric shades, cloth electrical cords, period bobeche (detailing found in 18th century pieces that used candles), crystal embellishments, mirrored and textured glass and exceptional casting. Finally, 16 table and floor lamps showcase exceptional looks and styling, incorporating wood, honed marble, crystal, silk-like shades, with a definitive nod to art deco, mid-century modern and other historic periods that exude comfort and luxury.

As noted by David Littman, Chairman/founder of Littman Brands, the parent company of Hudson Valley Lighting, “Across the board, this year’s lighting collections go the extra mile, offering distinct looks that exceed expectations. Thoughtful touches enhance fixtures and designs and bring added value, rivaling the look and feel of historic and antique fixtures. Through our extensive offerings, we can produce classically-inspired pieces that are manufactured with 21st century ingenuity."

The 2013 designs are unique, artful and look to decorative movements of the past for inspiration, but are fluid in that they can adapt to a variety of interior styles, be it modern, rustic, traditional or contemporary.

Leading the way in LEDs, is Hudson Valley Lighting’s Lansing pendant. Paying homage to the 1930’s when factories replaced workbench-mounted lamps with more efficient overhead fixtures, Lansing elevates with industrial chic design. With its distinctive RLM Warehouse Shade, a die-cast bulb guard protects Lansing’s prismatic glass diffuser. The fixture defies tradition in its incorporation of twelve (1.2 watt) LED bulbs, making it an optimal choice for a primary light source for residential or commercial settings. Available in polished or satin nickel finishes, which may be combined with black or white finish options.

Another noteworthy LED option is Sheridan. Elongated cylindrical fixtures command attention and would be well suited in the bath, paired with a vanity or sink. Minimal detailing and a handsome backplate do little to compete with this elegant design while powerful LED lamps deliver illumination at a fraction of the energy required by traditional bulbs. Sheridan can be specified in many sizes and three finishes to suit any specification.

The Hastings pendant offers a departure in direction for Hudson Valley Lighting. Characterized by its circular shape, a lavish span of gathered natural silk enwraps the pendant. The soft pleating contrasts with the shade’s cast metal rings while reeded metal arms provide a wonderful balance. The result: a handsome and delicate pendant that demands more than a glance.

Covington’s unique silhouette is sure to bring definition to any setting. Its ornamental dome allows for Covington’s shape and exquisite metal casting to take center stage. The one-light sconce can be specified in four distinct finishes and extends the historic theme further with a period socket holder and on/off switch. Before electricity was invented, sconces featured reflective backplates that amplified the glow of burning wax tapers. The Barker one-light sconce references this but also incorporates a high-polished nickel dish and sleek metal candle-sleeves for a stunning result. Rounding out the wall sconces, Clyde offers a delicate and formal option in lighting. The graceful arm bows slightly, marrying a cut crystal bobeche with a rounded, textured cast metal backplate. A gathered, pleated silk shade provides the pièce de résistance.

In the category of portables, a number of pieces stand out, among them:

The Cité Bouilotte was named in honor of an 18th century French card game that required special candelabras that helped to shield players eyes from glaring candle flames. Incorporating a wide shade that is mounted onto a post and situated between two wax tapers, the Cité Bouilotte table lamp offers a stylish interpretation of classic French design, complete with adjustable key detail.

Artfully modern, Deyo provides a thoroughly sculptural and eye-catching form. While the wide drum shade gives a nod to art modern, Hudson Valley Lighting puts a spin on tradition by suspending the shade from uniquely counterpoised metalwork. Elegantly proportioned and subtly adorned, Thayer evokes a timeless ode to classical architecture. The table lamp’s opal glass cylinder references the lines of a Doric column. Thayer’s smooth cast metalwork adds a perfect finishing detail to the composition.

Hudson Valley Lighting’s floor lamps are also scene stealers. Manheim marries natural materials to thoughtful forms in a composed mid-century styled design. Showcasing rich woods with gleaming metals, Manheim is offered as a table and floor lamp. The cast tripod base brings symmetry to the smooth drum shade. Lastly, Eastport draws inspiration from turn-of-the-century design, treasured for pairing elegance and functionality. Joined by cast knob-and-collar adjusters, the twin column lamp is fully height adjustable in either a floor or table lamp version. This adaptability makes for an attractive and thoughtful interior addition.
