The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Municipal Solid-State Street Light Consortium (MSSLC) recently released model guidelines for specifying LED streetlights for municipal installations. This document was created with the input and cooperation of a working group of Consortium members as well as LED lighting manufacturers. The MSSLC created the model to serve as a starting point for municipalities considering new, or adding to existing, LED streetlight installations. Additionally, the guidelines will serve as a useful tool for putting together effective bid documents resulting in multiple qualified bids.
The model is available online on the DOE SSL website. The flexible format allows municipal users to modify values to fit local criteria and specifications. Users are able to also sign up to receive notice of updates and modifications as they occur.
On November 15, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. ET, the DOE will host a 90 minute live webcast which will provide an overview of the model and directions for users. The webcast will be moderated by Edward Smalley, director of the MSSLC.
