LED products makers are organising a two-day exhibition here from tomorrow to create awareness and promote usage of LED in the country.
According to LED Manufacturers Association (LEDMA), the demand for packaged LED and LED products in the country stands at $ 1 billion and is expected to reach $ 35 billion by 2020.
"LEDs are finding more and more application in signals, signage/displays, automobiles, Back Lighting Units (BLUs) for TV, monitors and mobiles," LEDMA President M V Ramana Rao said.
He added that their main thrust is on solar LEDs.
Department of Information Technology Senior Director P S Narotra, who was also present at the event, said it is important to establish a strong indigenous manufacturing base in India to put India on global map of LED.
He added that DIT is keen to promote development of Electronics System Design and Manufacturing sector in India and has earmarked a budget of $ 40 billion for the next 10 years for the same.
However, he added, "This is our estimation and is subject to government approval."
