Vertically integrated Taiwanese LED manufacturer Lextar December revenue reached NT $1.1 billion (US $36.6 million), a decline of 5.8 percent from November but growth of 51.9 percent compared with December 2012. Revenue for 4Q13 was NT $3.32 billion, an increase of 40.9 compared to the same period in 2012. Revenue for 2013 as a whole was NT $13.7 billion, growth of 36.57 percent from NT $10.1 billion in 2012.
For backlight order in 4Q13, orders for LED application in notebook computers rebounded towards the end of the quarter and can continue into 1Q14, the company said. Direct-type TV application shipments also continue to increase. The company is optimistic about OD 15 slim direct- type TV which currently already has a small amount of shipments. The slim OD 15 products are anticipated to make up 50 percent of the company’s direct-type TVs by the second half of 2014. Additionally, the company’s strategy for cellphone backlight application products in 2013 was successful and has already entered into top brands in China and Japan. Cellphone backlight application already makes up 15 percent of the company’s total backlight revenue. New cellphone flash products continue shipments to Korean clients at the end of 4Q.
Penetration rate for LED lighting application increased rapidly and reached 20 percent by the second half of 2013. Market penetration is estimated to increase to 40 percent by the second half of 2014. Therefore, Lextar will watch the market situation to determine whether or not to increase lighting component shipment proportions. Revenue proportions for lighting products in 2014 could increase from 30 percent in 2013 to 40 percent in 2014.
