DaVinci Series Elevates the Standard for High-end Displays
Macroblock has launched its new DaVinci series driver ICs, designed to address visual issues such as coupling and low-gray uniformity. This series also introduces four innovative features:
-
Adaptive Refresh: Tackles band issues during shooting.
-
Low-gray Refresh Rate 2x-32x: Reduces flicker problems and supports a wide dynamic range.
-
Low Knee Voltage: Enhances power-saving capabilities and lowers high power consumption at high voltages.
-
Integrated PAM(Pulse Amplitude Modulation)+PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) | Supporting 19-bit PWM: Delivers superior picture quality with no color shifts or discontinuities in grayscale, thereby enhancing the overall contrast ratio when displaying low-gray images. The 19-bit gamma curve is finely tuned to better align with the HDR Electro-Optical Transfer Function (EOTF).
Macroblock demonstrates the following new driver ICs:
Common-anode LED driver ICs:
MBI5292 (32 scans/ 0.4-20mA/ 16 channels) – Featuring 19-bit grayscale technology to enhance HDR performance
The MBI5292 is Macroblock's flagship driver integrated circuit (IC), featuring the innovative DaVinci functions previously mentioned. Its integration of PAM and PWM to support 19-bit grayscale is vital for enhancing the visual performance of LED displays. This advanced technology is particularly suited for high-end applications such as live events, virtual production (VP), extended reality (XR), and premium indoor displays, setting a new standard for high-quality screens in the industry.
We used two cabinets to demonstrate the functions of "Low-gray Refresh Rate" and "Low Knee Voltage." Visitors who captured images of the cabinets using their cell phones in slow-motion mode could easily identify noticeable flicker, grayscale loss, and band issues. However, the cabinet with the "Low-gray Refresh Rate" function enabled exhibited normal performance.

MBI5292’s “Low-gray Refresh Rate” function could effectively solve the flicker problem.
In terms of power efficiency, the MBI5292 features a “low knee voltage” that benefits the LED cabinet by reducing power consumption by 20%. Additionally, the cabinet's surface temperature can be maintained below 40°C, which helps to decrease color sift and slow down LED aging problems.
Furthermore, the comparison between the 19-bit and 16-bit grayscale modules provides visitors with a firsthand experience of this breakthrough technology. The 19-bit demonstration covers a wider range in the mid- and low-gray areas, allowing for precise adjustments of detailed grayscale levels and greater control over variations. This improvement in low-gray display performance brings it closer to the HDR 10 color gamut, laying a strong foundation for achieving HDR display capabilities.

MBS7264 (64 scans/ 0.5-30mA/ 16 channels)-General LED Display Application, XR/VP
As the iterative product of the MBI5264, the MBS7264 addresses several low-gray display issues, including flicker, coupling, and uniformity. Consequently, the MBS7264 is the preferred driver IC for various applications, such as corporate, education, retail, and rental stages. When using LED displays as backdrops for broadcasts, VP, and XR, the "Adaptive Refresh" function can flexibly adjust the LED light time to minimize banding problems during shooting. Additionally, it supports 240FPS to accommodate multi-camera shooting and slow-motion filming. End users can consider the MBS7264 as a high-performance, cost-effective choice.

In 2025, our driver IC lineup will expand to include MBS7252 and MBS7253, supporting designs of up to 16 scans and 32 scans, respectively. Customers can select the most suitable driver IC based on their application requirements.
Common-cathode LED driver ICs:
MBI5756 (64 scans/ 1-18mA/ 16 channels)-General Indoor LED Display Application, XR/VP
The MBI5756, featuring a common-cathode architecture, is considered the twin product of the MBS7264. It offers enhanced power-saving efficiency, providing a "chill display" user experience. When the viewing distance of the installed display is close to the audience—such as in luxury store advertising, corporate meeting rooms, museums, classrooms, and out-of-home (OOH)—it not only delivers superior picture quality but also enhances the overall user experience. Regarding driver IC packages, both GP and GFN options are available for LED display manufacturers, helping to expedite the product's go-to-market time.

MBI5762(32 scans/ 0.5-10mA/ 48 channels)-Immersive LED Display Application
In the early launch phase of MBI5762, it was commonly used for XR and VP applications with a pitch design ranging from P1.2 to P2.6. Featuring a common-cathode architecture and 48 channels, MBI5762 is also well-suited for personal immersive displays with finer pitches, such as simulators, domes, and other entertainment innovations, including our demonstration of the curved display. MBI5762 supports 240 FPS, 16-bit grayscale, and a refresh rate of 7,680 Hz, providing significant advantages for displaying dynamic images. Its high contrast further enhances picture quality, creating a vivid visual experience that blurs the lines between reality and the virtual world.

MBS7752(32 scans /1-45mA/ 16 channels)-Outdoor/Semi-outdoor LED Display Application
The rise of 3D outdoor advertising displays and live events has once again made LED a powerful marketing tool. MBS7752, part of DaVinci series, is designed for high-current outdoor applications. As the global push for energy efficiency grows, the MBS7752 helps reduce power consumption for prolonged operation. Even for semi-outdoor advertising displays, it enhances visual performance with a 16-bit grayscale and a refresh rate of 7,680 Hz. When it showcases eye-catching content, it encourages passersby to take photos and share them on social media, amplifying the advertising impact.

Reveal the Trick of Grayscale Truncation
To achieve optimal low-gray uniformity in LED displays, it is crucial to address factors beyond just the LEDs themselves. When inferior LED driver ICs are used, manufacturers may resort to truncating low-gray grayscale levels, resulting in a lower contrast ratio. While end users may employ optical measuring devices to assess the performance of these displays, truncated low-gray grayscale can still employ dithering technology to achieve lower brightness levels. However, this approach can lead to significant visual issues when the display is used in XR/VP shooting scenarios.
To mitigate these problems, Macroblock offers a method involving the use of a smartphone's high-speed shutter mode to capture images. This technique allows users to verify whether grayscale truncation has occurred, facilitating better communication of application requirements with LED display manufacturers. By utilizing this method, users can avoid purchasing displays with unexpectedly poor visual performance.
