MagnaChip Semiconductor Ltd., a S. Korean provider of analog and mixed signal semiconductor products, newly entered the power LED driver market.
MagnaChip announced today that it released two new LED driver models (MAP1040, MAP1042) for constant current-based portable applications.
The newly launched models can drive up to four LEDs for displays on portable applications with only one LED driver and MAP1042 has a stronger power control function with dual LDO built in than the other model. In the wake of its first launch of LED drivers for portable applications this time, Magnachip plans to reinforce its presence in the power semiconductor market by further expanding to the LED driver markets for notebooks and TVs down the road.
The constant current mode, in particular, is expected to contribute to power efficiency by minimizing internal power loss when turned on. And the small chip size and no need for external capacitor are helpful for cost saving. These products also are available in eco-friendly packages that limit use of lead and halogen as regulated by the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) as is the case with other existing Magnachip products.
Magnachip is actively pushing for marketing activities by promoting benefits of constant current products and providing LED driver product roadmap to major portable application makers home and abroad. It plans to supply the products in full swing starting Q3 this year.
Sang Park, CEO and President of MagnaChip said,” We will continue to supply better performing power products while maintaining our strategic cooperative relationship with application makers home and overseas.”
