Taiwan LED packaging manufacturer VisEra Technologies is reported to put its manufacturing emphasis on high-power packages dedicated to light bulbs in 2011.
At present, the company produces 2,000 200mm wafers of packages a month, roughly equal to four million packages. In 2010 alone, it shipped as many as 800,000 packages to streetlight makers in the mainland.
Based on the bans imposed in 2012 by many economic powers on the energy-hungry incandescent bulbs, the company believes demands for LED light bulbs will begin exploding in the third quarter this year. To capture business in the market, the company has designated packages for bulbs as its major products this year.
Its LED operation exclusively focuses on lighting applications, packaging the chips on silicon wafers to advantage of the wafer’s outstanding thermal-conductivity property.
