It’s said that Pittsburgh is about to replace about 3,000 streetlights in the city's 50 business districts with LED bulbs within 10 months.
According to Councilman, the effort would be expanded to the rest of the city, which has nearly 40,000 streetlights, during the next few years.
At present , Pittsburgh is spending about $1 million a year to maintain its streetlights and another $1.1 million on electricity. By the time all of the lights are replaced, the city could be saving more than $1.3 million a year.
