Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Arizona, U.S. finished installing more than 3,000 LED bulbs in the East Economy parking garage, reported KTAR News.
Arrival of the brighter and more efficient lighting helped the airport reduce the usage of 71 light fixtures, said the airport’s Aviation Superintendent Gary Lovegren.
Moreover, the bulbs can slash maintenance costs because it is replaced less frequently than HPS light bulbs.
“We are getting anywhere between a 7 and 10-year warranty on these fixtures. So, not only do we have a power savings annually, but we also have a maintenance and labor savings of not having to replace those HPS lamps every three years,” says Lovegren.
Capital Improvement Funds and Operation and Maintenance Funds have been financially supporting the LED light upgrade in the airport, said Lovegren.
