Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., (TAEC) is now offering a 60 volt power MOSFET driver for white light emitting diodes (LEDs) targeted for LCD panel backlight applications such as car navigation monitors and 12-inch notebook PCs. These applications typically require high voltage of 24V to 48V to activate 8 to 16 white LEDs in series. The Toshiba SSM3K318T n-channel power MOSFET is small in size and well suited to boost a battery voltage to the level needed to turn on the LED array, with both high speed switching and low ON-resistance (RDS(ON)) for higher efficiency.
The SSM3K318T features low ON-resistance of 83.5 milliohms (typ.) at VGS = 10V, and low capacitance of 235 pF at VDS = 30V. The new device is available in a compact TSM package that measures 2.9mm x 2.8mm x 0.7mm.
Toshiba's broad selection of low ON-resistance small signal MOSFETs (S-MOS) is suitable for high-speed switching devices in portable electronics equipment. The MOSFETs feature among the lowest ON-resistance and lowest capacitance in the industry and are designed to save space while meeting designers' requirements.
