Groundbreaking year for lighting innovation sees Signify climb European Patent Office worldwide rankings

  • Record year for submissions puts Signify in the top 10 European-headquartered companies, remaining #1 in the lighting industry and at #22 worldwide.

Eindhoven, the Netherlands – Signify (Euronext: LIGHT), the world leader in lighting, continued to extend its industry-leading IP portfolio with a record year for submissions in 2022, placing in the top 10 European-headquartered companies, first in the lighting industry, and climbing to 22nd worldwide in the European Patent Office (EPO) rankings.

Signify's patent applications break new ground in sustainable innovations, including energy-efficient light sources and smart lighting systems for professionals, consumers, and municipalities. The patents filed in 2022 reflect the company's long-term commitment to many dimensions of sustainability including horticultural lighting to protect food availability, circular production including 3D printing, and light that optimizes people's health and well-being.

Signify has expanded the impact of its innovations through its pioneering EnabLED licensing program. Through the program, more than 1,500 companies can now access over 5,000 of Signify's patents and incorporate leading energy-efficient LED technologies into their own products.
