【Exclusive Interview】Nichia Always Goes Ahead of the Times in Lighting Market by Providing Nichia Light Cluster™ Type L

TrendForce had an opportunity and honor to interview Kei Haraguchi, Deputy General Manager, Lighting Planning Dept. Business Planning Div. Optoelectronics Products Business Unit, to learn more about the advanced technology progress of Nichia Light Cluster™ Type L.
 
Haraguchi noted that Nichia is dedicated to provide the high quality of light to achieve wellness, joyful and sustainability. Sustainability means to help environment friendly and energy saving. Therefore, Nichia has debuted Nichia Light Cluster™ Type L in the market, the strengths and features include the thinnest and light weight lighting fixtures, easy to be installed, and high quality of light without glare. 
 
 
By super wide batwing directivity design, Nichia Light Cluster™ Type L can provide the thinnest lighting fixtures, which means one-third (1/3) thickness compared with the conventional one. Since the thinner fixture design can create the lighter weight fixture, it contributes to reduce not only on material of fixture itself, but also installation/holding material. The way of installation for lighting fixture can be changed, too. Lightweight fixture needs just spring or magnetic support, and these kinds of installation can reduce installation time up to 50%. These advantages can contribute to sustainable society, in terms of save material and labor time. In addition, the super wide light distribution creates a soft light that envelops the entire space. That feature can support to design a comfortable ambient lighting.

OD : Optical Distance is distance between surface of circuit board and inner surface of diffuser.
 
Haraguchi indicated that Nichia Light Cluster™ Type L can provides selectable and tunable CCT (2,700-5,000K) lighting and CRI can reach Ra ≥90. Regarding the potential market applications, Nichia Light Cluster™ Type L can provide extremely high uniform, wide, smooth, and soft quality of light without glares and hot spots. The potential market applications include panel lights, linear fixtures, light walls, and artificial / indirect lighting in the buildings. Nichia Light Cluster™ Type L has already been installed in Japanese lighting markets and is available for the global lighting market segments.
 
 
 
Regarding the lighting market prospective, Haraguchi indicated that Nichia will consistently support lighting manufacturers to reduce size lighting fixtures, to be easy to use the light, and to provide high uniform quality of light without glare and hot spot.
