Wisconsin’s Camp Randall Stadium Bringing Fifth-Largest End Zone Display in College Football from Daktronics

News Source:

Continuing a long partnership with the University of Wisconsin (UW), Daktronics has been selected to design, manufacture and install a custom-shaped end zone display – the fifth largest in college football – an auxiliary end zone display and ribbon displays totaling 12,000 square feet and 10 million pixels at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin. This includes a video display above the scoreboard on Kellner Hall and a custom audio system as part of the project completed before kickoff this fall

“Wisconsin’s football fans have become accustomed to great fan experiences while watching championship football teams at historic Camp Randall,” says UW Director of Athletic Facilities William Hauri. “That is why UW Athletics was very excited to partner with Daktronics to provide the latest video board technology and sound system at the historic Camp Randall.

“Just like UW Athletics is committed to its student-athletes, Daktronics has proven to be a committed partner to UW Athletics, by supporting and providing the highest quality displays and sound systems. So, not only can fans watch and hear every play live, but they can watch every exciting play, replayed on Camp Randall’s new state-of-the-art video boards, creating an exceptional fan experience.”

End Zone Video Display Details

In the end zone, five different-sized displays come together to form the full experience for fans as they build out digital space around the audio system. The main inner display measures 48 feet high by 103 feet wide with two lower wing displays each measuring 20.5 feet high by 45.5 feet wide and two upper outside wing displays each measuring 27.5 feet high by 20.5 feet wide.

Together, these displays form the fifth largest scoreboard in college football at 48 feet high by 148.5 feet wide totaling roughly 7,950 square feet. Featuring variable content zoning, this can show one large image across all displays or it can show multiple zones of content including live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, graphics, animations and sponsorship messages.

“We’re thrilled to continue our long-standing partnership with the University of Wisconsin on this massive LED display upgrade that will bring a new level of entertainment to Badgers football fans this fall,” says Brock Wallen, Daktronics project manager. “Bringing this unique-shaped display to life will allow an incredible amount of flexibility for their game-day producers to deliver all the eye-catching, engaging content to their fans. I can’t wait to see it turned on and bringing extra energy to Camp Randall events!”

Additional Display Details

The auxiliary end zone video display on Kellner Hall measures 18 feet high by 56.5 feet wide to show similar and supplemental content to the main display as it helps provide a complete fan experience. This display features a convex curvature to match the building’s architecture and fit the aesthetics of the venue.

Two ribbon displays are mounted to the seating fascia to surround fans and engage them in the action. Each ribbon measures 3.5 feet high by 396 feet long to highlight sponsors throughout events while also delivering additional graphics and animations that fans have come to expect at live events.

All displays in this project feature 10-millimeter pixel spacing for excellent image clarity and contrast to fans throughout the stadium.
