Electric Toyota bZ3C SUV Will Have 630km Range and Lidar Powered Self-Driving

News Source:

The Toyota bZ3C will launch in early 2025 and will have a range of up to 630 km. It’s claimed that the Midsize SUV will be FAW Toyota’s most intelligent car to date, with noteworthy intelligent driving and an intelligent cockpit.

The car was first shown earlier this year at the Beijing Auto Show but was largely the same as the bZ Sport Crossover Concept seen a year earlier at the Shanghai Auto Show. It is a five-seat SUV with dimensions of 4780/1866/1510 mm in length, width, and height and a wheelbase of 2880 mm.

There are a total of eight external looks thanks to five different exterior color options, with three of them also offering a two-tone version with the area above the window line in black. The colors available for the car are black, white, gray, orange, and red. Inside, the car can be specified in red, black, or white, although it should be noted that this mainly applies to the upholstery and the inserts with the top of the dashboard and steering wheel remaining black.

Dominating the dashboard is a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, which apparently supports more than 200 third-party apps. It’s claimed to have the first driver and occupant monitoring system in its class. This includes AI face recognition, in-car video calls, reminders about children, and features such as gesture and voice control, along with an AI virtual assistant. The steering wheel itself appears to have a large number of buttons on it. An instrument panel set far back in the dashboard near the windshield suggests that the Toyota bZ3C Does not have a head-up display.

The front seats can lie down completely flat, running into the second row creating a snooze space. Trunk space is a relatively meager 463 liters, which is said to be enough to accommodate four 24-inch suitcases.

There is a Lidar unit on top of the windshield, and the car is set to feature high-end smart driving ability. It is based around an end-to-end large model, and the car should be able to undertake urban smart driving along with high-speed and parking functions.

Thanks to MIIT listing information supplied in September, we know that the car uses a TZ200XS003 200 kW electric motor. Battery power comes courtesy of BYD subsidiary FinDreams and its lithium-ion phosphate blade battery. Currently, capacities are unknown. However, there will be two versions, one with a range of 550 km and the other with 630 km, as measured by the CLTC testing system.

Like many of the legacy JVs in China, the FAW Toyota joint venture is struggling for relevance. The bZ3C sounds relatively competitive and may well give the JV the boost it is waiting for, especially as the design is quite distinctive.
