Genesis ventures into new LED applications

Taiwan epitaxial wafer maker Genesis Photonics Inc. has successfully landed orders from a globally leading printer supplier for yellow, green and blue LED light sources used in LED printers.

According to David Chung, chairman of the firm, it is the top-caliber technology for manufacturing green, yellow and blue LEDs used in LED printers that enables Genesis to win the orders as the world’s only supplier of GaN-based yellow LEDs in the segment, adding that with the market niches, the company is expected to sustain a strong growth rate of 20-30% in business operations in 2009, despite the upcoming global economic recession.

Genesis has been faring well in the segment for LEDs used in outdoor signages, thus minimizing sales declines caused by the recent global depression this year. As the strategy works, the firm posted aggregate net profits of NT$3.03 per share for the first three quarters of the year as the most profitable among Taiwan epitaxial wafer makers so far.

Genesis noted that the orders will help to push up its monthly LED shipments to a range of 5 million units to 10 million units in 2009, forecasting the industry to rally back starting the second quarter of the year. Developed in line with the growing awareness of energy-saving features, Growing popularity of LED printer assures Genesis great market niches.
