LiDAR Sensors to Strengthen Smart City Monitoring and Support Part Automation

Velodyne Lidar announced two new business partners and is going to leverage its LiDAR sensing technologies for people flow monitoring and automation at one of the busiest seaport.

Velodyne signed a multi-year partnership agreement with Outsight, who offers solutions of Smart Cities monitoring. Outsight uses Velodyne Lidar sensing technology in its 3D Semantic Camera system that helps businesses and governments improve the analysis and management of people flow and assets in large crowded environments.

LiDAR sensors enable 3D capture and tracking of people and objects while maintaining anonymity. 3D Semantic Cameras solution merges LiDAR data capture with RGB color data with an embedded AI processing unit to create a detailed situational understanding of facilities, such as airports, shopping malls and train stations.

The solution is being deployed at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport to optimize the passenger journey, improve queue and asset management, and enhance compliance and safety. Outsight’s 3D Semantic Cameras can also be deployed to support social distancing and public health.

At the same time, Velodyne’s 3D LiDAR sensors Puck is now used by autonomous vehicle specialist DGWorld in its fleet of Autonomous Internal Terminal Vehicles at Jebel Ali Port in UAE.

Rajant Corporation, the provider of Kinetic Mesh wireless networks, has collaborated with Velodyne to push automation integration into the existing operational processes and infrastructures. Velodyne Puck sensors will provide computer perception data to help determine the safest way to navigate and direct AITVs in the complex, busy DP World, UAE Region seaport. The Rajant wireless mesh network provides a continuous communications infrastructure to ensure the AITVs are always interconnected and working together.
