New Hampshire City to Switch 5,500 Streetlights to LEDs

Nashua is a city in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States. The City officials approved a US $ 1.5 million project to upgrade high pressure sodium streetlights to LED streetlights, reported Union Leader.

The city’s current energy bill on streetlights reaches approximately US $ 800,000 while the new LED ones are expected to save the city more than US $300,000 a year, said Mayor Jim Donchess.

The board of Aldermen approved the project’s total US $1,455,694expenditure, which will be done by Siemens Industry Inc. of Austin, Texas. The conversion is expected to be completed within six months. A total of 5,500 streetlights will be upgraded to LEDs.

A pilot project is conducted to decide the ideal illumination throughout Nashua. LED lights with 3000K and 4000K will be installed to reach decision making.

Alongside, the city is also looking at the possibility to use smart control system in streetlights. However, the side project will be financed through a bond. The proposal was approved by the aldermen early this week.
