Philips Lighting Offers LED Bulb and Smart Streetlight Solutions in Ghana

News Source:

Dutch lighting giant Philips Lighting has started selling energy efficient LED bulbs at Palace shopping mall in Ghana capital Accra, reported Graphic Online.

The new LED bulbs can help consumers save energy by 85%, which was highly approved by the country’s Deputy Minister of Power John Abdulai Jinapor, who said it could help reduce the loading of the national energy grid.

Philips Lighting has signed a partnership agreement with Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to demonstrate the efficiency of the LED bulbs in selected households, said Felix Darko, General Manager of Philips Lighting Export.

Additionally, the company is offering the Ghana government smart LED streetlight products that could be used to convert conventional streetlights, he added.

The smart LED streetlights can be remotely controlled from the ECG office to monitor bulbs energy consumption, malfunctioning bulbs, switch on or turn off lights and other functions that could save considerable man power.

These streetlights are designed to withstand large voltage fluctuations, which could bring down energy costs, said Darko.
