Times Square to Light up "2011" LED numerals to Celebrate New Year

It’s reported that the numerals which are comprised of LED bulbs in the giant "2011" sign will be lit up on New Year's Eve arrives in Times Square.

According to Silvie Casanova of Philips Lighting, "The LED technology in the ball is what allows us to do all sorts of different designs with it, because you can control it more than you could with regular lamps. So they can do these interesting designs that you'll see on New Year's Eve with the ball."

New Yorkers can help light up the 2011 sign at the Duracell Lab by pushing special pedals. The energy created will be converted into power for the sign's batteries.
