British City Gloucester Upgrades to More Energy Efficient Car Parks

The Gloucester City Council in southwest UK is implementing two major upgrades in local parking lots to make them more energy efficient and environmental friendly, reported Gloucester Citizen.

LED streetlights along with electric vehicle charging posts will be installed across parking lots in the city, the upgrades are initially being rolled out in two parking lots respectively in Longsmith Street, Eastgate and Westgate Street.

The two charging points will be able to recharge cars within three hours, and is part of a nationwide installation program. The charging points has cost the county council GBP 10,000 (US $14,206) to complete with money coming from the county council’s Local Sustainability Transport Fund.

Not much was revealed about the volume of LED lights that will be installed in the car parks, aside from the fact they are much more energy efficient than old fluorescent lights used in the parking lots. 

The city is encouraging residents to drive electric cars that release less pollutants in the air and has a much lower carbon emission than conventional cars.
