As automotive design continues to evolve, the demand for sleek, distinctive front lighting has never been greater. Thin, continuous light lines are becoming a defining element of vehicle identity, balancing aesthetics with functionality. In response to this trend, ams OSRAM unveils its latest innovation in forward lighting: the OSLON™ Compact RM, a new member in the Compact LED family designed to meet the technical and stylistic demands of next-generation headlamp systems.
At the heart of this development is a newly engineered 0.5 mm² rectangular high-current chip, housed in a compact ceramic package. This miniaturized architecture enables optical systems with heights as low as 10 millimeters, paving the way for ultra-slim headlamp designs that were previously difficult to achieve. The result is an LED that delivers improved optical efficacy through its adapted light-emitting area (LEA) of 0.6 mm × 0.9 mm with an aspect ratio of 1:1.5. It provides high luminance and uniform light output, free from dark zones, while maintaining excellent energy efficiency — a key factor for electric vehicles.
The OSLON™ Compact RM is tailored for advanced front lighting applications, targeting three light functions: low beam, static high beam, as well as adaptive ADB (Adaptive Driving Beam) LED matrix systems. With its rectangular light-emitting area (LEA), vertically oriented within the package, the OSLON™ Compact RM enables precise pixel-to-pixel alignment and provides a greater vertical light spread in ADB systems. At a driving current of 1 A, it achieves an impressive luminance of 209 Mnits, ensuring maximum optical performance even with small lens components. Its compact two-pad package design supports excellent solder stability on aluminum boards, making it highly versatile for a wide range of automotive lighting applications.
The OSLON™ Compact RM opens creative new possibilities. Its combination of high luminance, compact form factor, homogenous light, and color appearance allows for the creation of signature lighting elements that enhance both personal and brand identity on the road. Lighting is thus much more just than a functional feature — it becomes a statement.
With the launch of the OSLON™ Compact RM, ams OSRAM reinforces its commitment to innovation in mobility and lighting technology. This new LED generation aligns with key industry trends in electrification, minimalism, and emotionally resonant design, offering a compelling solution for OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, lighting professionals, and design enthusiasts alike.
