With the iPhone 17 launching this fall, speculation is swirling around its key suppliers, and Samsung is among one of them. According to South Korean media outlets Etnews and SamMobile, Samsung Display is set to supply M14-based OLED panels for the entire iPhone 17 series.
The reports highlight a milestone for Samsung, as M14 materials were previously limited to the iPhone 16 Pro models. According to Etnews, Samsung Display will now supply OLED panels for all four iPhone 17 models, with an estimated 80-90 million units, making it Apple’s largest OLED supplier.
According to Etnews, Apple typically applies new materials to high-end models first. However, for the iPhone 17 lineup, M14-based OLED panels are expected to extend to the 6.1-inch Standard and 6.6-inch Air models, alongside the 6.3-inch Pro and 6.9-inch Pro Max.
Unlike traditional displays, OLED generates its own light when electricity passes through organic materials. These materials control color, brightness, and lifespan, with higher numbers representing newer, more advanced technology. As per Etnews, the M14 material set is the most advanced OLED material set ever commercialized.
It is worth noting that the two tech giants’ collaboration is likely to expand beyond iPhone. According to The Elec, Samsung Display is currently developing sample OLED panels for the MacBook Pro. Its 8th-generation OLED factory is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026, with the A6 factory dedicated to producing OLED display panels for the MacBook Pro, the report indicates.
