Ilion Have a Bright Future by LED Streetlights

About 100 LED streetlights were installed a couple of years ago along Barringer Road in Ilion in coordination with Frankfort’s Fiberdyne Energy, Chief Executive Officer Peter Polus said.

Village officials are looking into various products and options for possibly extending LED streetlights to other main roads and eventually to the whole village.

About $1 million of state funding for LEDs – or solid-state lighting – is expected to become available this fall through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

It’s becoming more common nationwide for municipalities to turn to LED streetlights to cut down on energy costs, and many local municipalities are planning to install LED streetlights in the near future.
