To reduce energy consumption and save money, Lewiston has installed five LED streetlights as part of a demonstration project. The streetlights are on loan to the city. Mike McCrery, the traffic services manager for the city of Lewiston, says after 60 days the five LED streetlights will come down and 50 new ones will be put up on 17th Street. In Vestal, a part of New York's the Greater Binghamton area, the 2009 town board discussed the issue at length, creating a law that would put strict regulations on the use of LED signs.
