Japan's Fujifilm Corp. plans to enter the market for LED lighting materials with a new kind of light diffusing film which is thinner and offers higher illumination intensity than products now available. The light diffusing film acts to spread out the light from the LED bulbs so they are not so bright. These diffusers are now typically made from acrylic resin materials which are milky in color and around 2mm thick. The thickness means they are hard to bend, and the milky color means that some of the light is wasted.

The J. G. Papailias Co., a leading manufacturer of process observation and allied equipment, has introduced a high intensity light engine to replace halogen technology. The Series HI-LED lamp is not a standard LED bulb, but a custom designed lamp that features a more robust technology. Unlike halogen bulbs, HI-LED lamps have no filament and are not affected by vibration, impact, heat, dust or surface oils.

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. today introduced new AC-DC digital power controllers for LED lighting. The CY8CLEDAC01/02 controllers offer a cost-effective solution for both non-dimmable and dimmable LED lighting, delivering high efficiency while meeting EnergyStar requirements. They provide automatic dimmer detection, so they work with the majority of the existing installed base of wall dimmers, providing dimming down to 2% with no flicker.

Imago Architecture provided a turn-key solution to install several LED Screens to the new Visitors Center at La Ciudad Grupo Santander located in Boadilla del Monte (Madrid). Six custom-made cylinders, known as totems, will be installed into a huge glass cube, where all visitors must pass to access the facility. The cube acts as a greenhouse and contains trees and LED screen cylinders, which create a unique atmosphere.

Luminus Devices, developer and manufacturer of big-chip PhlatLight® LEDs, today announced that it provides the light source inside Martin Professional’s new MAC 350 Entour™, the world’s first high output LED-based, mercury-free, profile light. LEDs measured on the test bench can produce different photometric and color results in actual operation mounted on the PC board. Also measuring slight color and flux differences between discrete LEDs mounted in a module is not possible with typical LED measurement set-ups.

Boutique Due in Aalst (Belgium) is happy with the replacement of +50 heat generating Halogen bulbs. Company PAS-NGL replaced all Halogen 50 watt bulbs with PAS-NGL-CRS MR16. Customers and visitors didn't notice the change. Owner Kristine is very happy with the 88% reduction in energy cost. The boutique uses 4 aircos to dissipate all heat, which costed a lot of extra money. In a second phase 27 (300 watt)halogen floods will be replaced with 70 watt PAS-NGL-FL70A WW Compact floodlights.
