In collaboration with the OSRAM partner network LED Light for you, the German company Diana Electronic Systems has developed an energy-efficient LED lamp for the Global Nature Fund to be used in Sri Lanka. Local fishermen will use the lamps instead of their environmentally harmful kerosene lamps when fishing at night.

IXYS Corp. has introduced the LDS8710/11, LDS8720/24/26 LED drivers to eliminate the external Schottky diode normally used in the rectification loop.
The LDS8710 drives a string of 10 LEDs with factory-preset maximum LED current values of 20-, 25- and 30mA with 1% accuracy, and uses pulse-width modulation dimming to adjust LED brightness. They are designed for LCD display backlight applications such as automotive displays, GPS, netbooks, laptop PCs, tablet computers and industrial and medical displays.

Bridgelux released neutral white versions of ES and RS LEDs, with a colour temperature of 4,100K.
ES devices offer 400, 800 and 1,200 lm, while RS device delivers add up to 3,400 lm, expanding the existing 3,100 lm warm white and 4,500 lm cool white RS range.
ES and RS LEDs are square: respectively 25 and 50mm across. There is also a 'star' version of ES.RS devices operate at 2.1A with a forward voltage of 26V.

These 5mm extra bright LEDs are available in red and amber colors. The maximum LED junction temperature limit of +130°C makes high temperature operation in bright sunlight conditions possible. To reduce the effects of long term exposure to direct sunlight, the lamp epoxy uses UV inhibitors.
