AIXTRON Receives Order for MOCVD GaAs LED Production Tool from Changelight

AIXTRON AG announced that Changelight Co., Ltd., ordered an AIXTRON Planetary Reactor system for the production of Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) LED. The Changelight order is for an AIX 2600G3 system in the 49x2-inch wafer configuration. The tool was delivered in the third quarter 2009 to the company’s state-of-the-art new facilities in Xiamen (Xiang An) Torch Industry Park of Fujian Province, China.

Today, at the annual Cree (Nasdaq:CREE) shareholder meeting, Cree Chairman and CEO Chuck Swoboda demonstrated an A-lamp LED light bulb with the highest lumen output and efficacy reported in the industry. The bulb produces 969 lumens at an impressive 102 lumens per watt, which is the light output equivalent to a 65-watt incandescent bulb, yet it uses only 9.5 watts.

Samsung Unveils 3.9mm-thick LED TV

Samsung introduced its "world's thinnest" 3.9mm-thick 40-inch LCD TV based on LED technology at FPD International 2009. The new design uses LED based edge-lighting along with new optical film manufacturing process to spread the light evenly behind the screen. The luminance, contrast and frame frequency of the panel are 400cd/m2, 5,000:1 and 120Hz, respectively.
