Osram is set to strengthen its position in entertainment lighting and agreed to acquire Clay Paky, a leading maker of entertainment lighting for shows and events. The profitable company from Northern Italy is privately owned and recently generated annual sales of more than €60 million (US $80.40 million). Accenture and Philips Latest Research Enables ALS Patients to Turn on Lights by Thinking

Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG; AEX: PHIA) and Accenture (NYSE: ACN) today announced that they have developed proof of concept software connecting a wearable display to Emotiv Insight Brainware that could ultimately give more independence to patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neurodegenerative diseases. Affecting more than 400,000 people per year*, ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, impairs brain and spinal cord nerve cells, gradually diminishing voluntary muscle action. Late-stage patients often become totally paralyzed while retaining brain functions.

California Community College District Gives LEDs the Green Light

The Board of Directors of Rancho Santiago Community College District unanimously approved the use of Redbird LED for their interior LED lighting retrofit project with the use of Prop 39 funding.  The conversion to LED lighting will save the district over US $2 million throughout the life of the product.  In addition, Southern California Edison (SCE) will provide the district over US $300,000 in rebates. Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (“INCJ”), Japan Display Inc.
