The technology
OLED Technology presents many unique design opportunities within the consumer & commercial lighting sector that would have previously been impossible or at the least very difficult. OLED’s allow for incredibly low profile designs while delivering a uniform glare free light source. Currently not delivering the output for cost effective area lighting though they can provide suitable output and longevity for use in accent & ambient lighting.

Intent
OLED Carbon aims to embrace the aforementioned design characteristics by being a subtle and individual solution for gallery & display lighting where aesthetics & functionality are of equal importance. The low profile, fluid shape allows the OLED to be interesting in its own right but not to detract from the picture or feature it is illuminating. From a technical perspective the zero UV emission also makes the product ideal for fragile displays that are at risk from UV Damage or degradation. OLED carbon has been designed as a manufacturable & effective luminiare not simply a one off concept.
Creation
OLED Carbon is undergoes several manufacturing processes, firstly the body is machined from a solid wooden block to create a flat component, the part is then steamed until it is pliable enough for forming. Once formed the OLED is wired up and finally the carbon back plate is bonded in.
Materials
OLED Carbon is constructed of Carbon fiber sheet & American Black Walnut, these materials have been chosen to express how OLED technology has an intrinsic connection to the organic world whilst also occupying a position at the bleeding edge of lighting technology.
