Museum of London 2012 Olympic Cauldron Lit Up with Soraa LEDs

Early in 2014, the Museum of London sought a lighting scheme for their new gallery, built to house the London 2012 Olympic Cauldron.

This project proved to be a unique challenge—to reveal the sculpture that is the Cauldron in a way that recalls that magic moment during the opening and closing ceremonies when London was the focus of the world’s attention. The lighting was specifically designed to refer to the ceremonies while enhancing the sculpture and acting as a link between the AV and the exhibit.

SORAA lamps (10 degree and 2200K CTO SNAP SYSTEM) were used between the stems up lighting the petals of the open section. SORAA light emphasized the complexity of the structure and the scale of the design, silhouetting the outer perimeter of the stems.

Elpie Psalti, Museum of London major exhibitions project manager said, “Lighting has played a crucial role in this exhibition: atmospheric, evocative and in sync with the AV exhibits, it brings back the magic of the event and creates a strong emotional response from our visitors.”
