News Source:

Agartala has completed the first phase of its 35,000 streetlight retrofit project last Thursday, according to a report of The Free Press Journal.

“The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) to put up LED lights in the entire Agartala city,” said Power and Urban Development Minister Manik Dey.

The entire project cost of Rs. 200 million (US $3.20 million) will be paid by EESL, he said.

The second largest city in northeast India witnessed 18km of its roadway lit up by LED lights last Thursday. Second and third phases of the project will take place in the next few months.

The city is expecting an energy cut of 40 percent out of its streetlight system after the project completed.
