Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Installs LED Lighting from Osram Sylvania

Osram Sylvania donated LED lamps to the Energizing Taliesin West program of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. The program focuses on continuing Frank Lloyd Wright’s legacy of innovation in finding better, less expensive methods for building.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation is happy to announce that North American lighting leader Osram Sylvania has made a significant donation of innovative LED lighting products to the Energizing Taliesin West program.  Led by energy efficiency consultant Big Green Zero, the program is focused on the goal of continuingFrank Lloyd Wright's legacy of innovation in finding better and less expensive methods for building structures and for utilizing them.

The donation by Osram Sylvania is made with the goal of creating energy savings and supporting environmental sustainability efforts at both of Frank Lloyd Wright's historic estates, Taliesin West (Scottsdale, AZ) and Taliesin (Spring Green, WI). Osram Sylvania has donated a variety of energy-efficient LED lamps to be installed at both campuses, which were the personal homes and architectural laboratories of Frank Lloyd Wright during his life. Osram Sylvania's commitment of technologies and products that promote resourceful energy use contributes to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation's focus on innovation through energy efficiency continuous improvement.

Studio Lux, an international leader in architectural lighting design, translated the unique historic lighting design requirements of both historic properties into Osram Sylvania LED product specifications.

Installation of Osram Sylvania's energy-efficient LED lamps in these two architecturally profound destinations that welcome 150,000 visitors annually will allow the Foundation and its sustainable energy partner Big Green Zero to reduce the Foundation's energy expense and carbon footprint, make the energy cost savings available for preservation efforts at both sites, and provide public education about the potential for reducing energy waste and carbon footprints in both commercial or residential buildings.

The donation from Osram Sylvania is an important contribution to the Foundation's Energizing Taliesin West initiative.  Energizing Taliesin West began during 2011 when an energy audit utilizing EnergyActio software determined that the $170,000 annual energy bill could be reduced by half through by implementing an Energy Efficiency Continuous Improvement process.  The EnergyActio audit also indicated that the remaining electrical requirement could be offset by renewable solar energy.  As a result, Big Green Zero proposed developing a plan to demonstrate best-of-breed energy efficiency and solar energy technologies at this profoundly historic property.

Since its inception, the Energizing Taliesin West program has defined the Foundation's commitment to energy efficiency through upgrades and enhancements to outdated systems, the installation of a solar photovoltaic field, and continuing public education on the world wide need to embrace sustainable energy planning. Osram Sylvania joins other program partners First Solar (Power One, Klondyke Construction, Rummel Construction, Beusing Corp.), Studio Lux, Home Tech Europe, Big Green Zero and EnergyActio in allowing the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation to fulfill important mission based activities that promote Frank Lloyd Wright's legacy of innovation and belief in public access and engagement.

"Osram Sylvania's donation of energy-efficient LED lamps allows the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation to be on the forefront of promoting the value of energy improvement plans for public and private properties," said Sean Malone, president & CEO of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.  "This type of smart and simple use of top-of-field technology to make a public site function more efficiently is perfectly in line with Frank Lloyd Wright's principles of integration and organic design."

"By replacing incandescent lamps with our energy saving LED products, the beauty of the light from Frank Lloyd Wright's original hand crafted luminaires can be maintained while helping to meet sustainability goals which were not possible in his lifetime," said Jes Munk Hansen, CEO of Osram Americas and president and CEO of Osram Sylvania.  "This is where the future of lighting meets the splendor of the past.  Frank Lloyd Wright was a visionary, and it is an honor to have our LED lamps illuminating the institution where he worked and contemplated his amazing designs."
