On June 27, Pacific Gas and Electric Company kicked off the upgrade of 7,677 streetlights to LEDs in Clovis. The conversion is expected to save the city approximately US $48000 per year, reported the Fresno Bee.
Denny Boyles, PG&E spokesmen, said that the program will eventually switch 160,000 streetlights was launched in 2015 in Contra Costa County. The company replaced 25,000 lights across 20 communities in 2015. In 2016, PG&E plans to upgrade 60,000 lights in 70 communities. But what is worth noted is that the company replaces only PG&E-owned streetlamps.
The communities are given the option to whether they want to participate in the LED streetlight conversion.
