Sportsbeam to Release LED Stadium and Sports Lighting at Lightfair Int’l

Sportsbeams, a leading manufacturer of LED stadium and sports lighting, introduced its new LED Stadium 1500 -- the world's most advanced LED stadium sports lighting fixture -- at Lightfair International in San Diego, California.

Sportsbeams new LED Stadium 1500 fixtures have already been integrated into the current lighting design of the 65,000-seat Raymond James Stadium, home of the National Football League's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, thus becoming the first "outdoor" LED field lights installed in a pro stadium application.

"We went through four or five lighting manufacturers before making a decision," said Chris Jacquot, Director of Facilities at Raymond James Stadium for the Tampa Sports Authority. "We found Sportsbeams to be the best quality light and their people are fantastic."

Specifically designed for both indoor and outdoor venues, Sportsbeams LED Stadium 1500 generates approximately 200,000 lumens of light, harnessed into player-friendly focused beams with five different models using just 1,500 watts of light emitting diodes (LEDs). Sportsbeams' ultra-high output fixtures mean that 50% fewer fixtures are required as compared to traditional sports venue HID lighting, or up to 30% fewer fixtures are needed as compared to existing LED stadium fixtures.

Using its single optic glass approach, Sportsbeams' LED Stadium 1500 delivers a far more even and blended beam, which minimizes light pollution and is virtually maintenance-free for stadiums, arenas, high mast, and other large scale applications, with an extremely long 20-plus year LED operational life.

Most importantly, Sportsbeams patent-pending large single-optical system solves the retina-piercing glare issue currently plaguing professional sports players/athletes in stadiums using conventional LED lights. Existing LED stadium lights often cluster together hundreds of small plastic lenses, which creates hundreds of harsh "pin light" sources, resulting in distracting and disabling glare. Specifically, such conventional LED sports fixtures emit light that is more akin to a series of laser beams in contrast to the wide homogenous single-optic output of Sportsbeams.

How many times have you seen a baseball player lose a pop-up or flyball under conventional LED lights? Conversely, Lightfair's professional attendees were able to see firsthand that Sportsbeams wide single optical-glass design is a much easier light source to look at - a critical consideration in professional sports lighting.

"We're the experts in professional LED lighting for broadcast applications," says Kevin Baxter, Sportsbeams Chief Technical Officer. "As a matter of fact, the extensive technical achievements of Sportsbeams founders include six Emmy® Awards for advancements in LED lighting technology 'so innovative that they have materially affected the recording of television'."

In addition, the founders of SportsBeams have been designing and supplying precision LED lighting systems for mission-critical broadcast sporting events for over a decade, including the Super Bowl and NBA Finals. Plus, their LED lights have been installed in the International Space Station for NASA, as well as for broadcast studio operations all over the world, including NBC, CBS, BBC, FOX and the White House Press Room.

Recently, Baxter and team won three "Best of Show" awards at this year's National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show for their new innovations in LED broadcast lighting.

Additional features of the Sportsbeams LED Stadium 1500 include instant re-strike to eliminate lighting blackouts, providing absolutely flicker-free film and video capture at any frame rate - including super slow-motion, and multiple remote command options to create enhanced fan-experience lighting effects.
