Taiwanese LED package manufacturer Ledtech recently released their fiscal 2013 financial report. The company benefited from strong growth in profit margin in both their Chinese white household product and lighting product business, which drove up revenue in 2013.

Taiwan has seen an uptick in LED street light replacement activity as of late. Last year, around 25,000 street lights were replaced during a street light replacement project across five major cities in Taiwan. An additional 30,000 street lights are anticipated to be replaced this year, according to the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).

Lextar Electronics Corp., a vertically integrated LED company, announced packaging-free “White Chip” to demonstrate its new achievement in LED technology. This new White Chip LED will make its debut at “Light + Building Frankfurt 2014” until April 4th. Philips presented its smart Hue bulb range, OLED panels, and various mart lighting technologies at at Light +Building 2014, which runs from March 31 to April 4, 2014 at Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Center in Frankfurt, Germany.LEDinside Research Director Roger Chu noted while the lighting giant’s booth was less impressive than last year the company was sending a clear message to consumers with its product portfolio choice. “Philips product portfolio showcased this year sends a clear message to consumers about the company’s ambition in presenting future lighting technologies,” said Chu.

The joint facility owned by Apple and GT Advanced Technologies in Mesa, Arizona is expanding, said Apple Insider. The number of buildings and facilities on the 83-acre plot of land is growing, perhaps to accommodate higher yields for products yet to be announced.

An Osram research team has succeeded in constructing the most efficient LED lamp in the world. The lamp in tubular form consumes only half the power of currently common fluorescent and LED tubes, and also achieves significantly superior colour rendering.

Whether the same trend of smart light, OLED technology, horticultural lighting and street light seen at TILS 2014 will also be seen in Germany remains to be seen.
