It’s reported that Future Lighting Solutions has provided key technical design assistance for new energy-saving LED light fixtures unveiled last month on the Hong Kong MTR (Mass Transit Railway). The new fixtures, each comprised of 32 high-powered LEDs, are designed to reduce energy consumption on the city’s trains, extend bulb life to lower replacement costs, and provide more natural lighting than conventional fluorescent tubing for commuter comfort.

LED light manufacturer GlacialLight, a sub-division of the experienced technology manufacturer GlacialTech Inc., is launching a brand new LED-MR16 light bulb. GlacialTech states that their management leverages all their expertise, coupling together all the necessary experience to manufacture the best LED lights in the business. The new green energy saving LED light is a much more enhanced version of current LED MR16 models available in markets today.

A split second after a technician inside Ruud Lighting's warehouse typed a command into his laptop, streetlights along 92nd St. outside blinked off, then back on.

China's major home appliance maker Konka Group Co. Ltd, recently stated construction of a LED backlight factory in east China's Jiangsu Province. The factory based in Kunshan City, with a total investment of 886 million yuan and covering an area of 33 hectares, is expected to produce 7.2 million Liquid Crystal Modules (LCM) and 3.6 million televisions with eight LCM production lines.

Advanced Lumonics, LLC, an early leader in the direct replacement LED lighting market through its consumer oriented EarthLED brand has announced its EvoLux and ZetaLux LED light bulbs have achieved UL Listing and FCC Certification. The company says that the UL Listing will allow the use of EvoLux and ZetaLux in a variety of projects that require this certification prior to installation and open up many previously untapped markets for LED technology.

Recently, HessAmerica, a subsidiary of Hess AG of Germany, has introduced a large-scale light column - Sierra 6500. The company says Sierra 6500 is a large-scale illuminating column for outdoor area lighting. Standing twenty-one feet in height and ten inches in diameter, the column provides rich colored illumination from LEDs.

UK lighting manufacturer LiteLED has released the SL Series linear LED luminaire, a strip light that is smaller, longer lasting and provides superior task efficiency compared to the neon or fluorescent lamps. LiteLED says the SL Series was designed to address the specific demands of under-cabinet, cove and refrigeration lighting applications.

Lights are shining the University at Buffalo's North Campus because the university has replaced some conventional lamps with LEDs. Five new LED street lights were installed on the service road leading to the Baker Chilled Water Plant on the North Campus, while a total of four new LED interior lights were installed in corridors in the UB Center for the Arts and 20 LED lamps were installed in the main lobby of Alumni Arena, home of the UB Athletics Department.

It’s reported that Samsung revealed a pico projector equipped phone at the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona, Spain. The phone is in a shiny silver and black case with touchscreen, it has a 1080p resolution. Besides, the key features are LED technology from Luminus Devices and Digital Light Projection technology from Texas Instruments.

Starchips announces SCT2024 the latest member of its LED Display Driver Family. SCT2024 is a constant current LED driver with 16-bit Serial-In / Parallel-Out interface capability. Recently, RECOM Electronic GmbH has introduced its RCD series of constant current LED Drivers. They deliver a maximum of 1200mA to provide the higher currents needed by the next generation of high brightness LEDs. The company says the LED drivers have been designed to be as reliable as the LEDs they are driving and contain no electrolytic or tantalum capacitors.

Recently, ON Semiconductor has introduced a new 6W LED driver - the CAT4106. The company says the LED driver with an integrated, high-power DC-DC boost converter and on-chip diagnostics can maximize efficiency in larger, general purpose LCD panel backlighting applications.

Philips announced that it has reached an agreement to buy Italy-based Ilti Luce Srl, one of the leading LED design companies in Europe for architectural indoor lighting. Ilti Luce will become part of the Professional Luminaires business within the Philips Lighting sector.

Global Lighting Technologies (GLT) has introduced new high-brightness LED-based backlight assemblies that enable independent control of the brightness and color of individual zones within the backlight. The company says they can be used to achieve color fading, pulsing, or steady state illumination, and can be utilized in a wide array of consumer electronics displays as well as in keypads/keyboards used in mobile phones and laptop and desktop PCs.

ilumisys, Inc., a developer and producer of next-generation solid-state lighting technology, announced that its channel partner IHNcorp has installed several LED light tubes at Four Seasons Resort Aviara in Carlsbad, Calif. illuisys notes Los Angeles-based IHNcorp and its subsidiary Ecogreen Solutions Inc. replaced fluorescent lights with ilumisys MK1 T-8 LED light tubes in select areas of the hotel.

UV LEDs are reportedly beginning to challenge the traditional $500M UV lamp business. The report notes that the UV lighting business is a market of about $500 million with traditional UV lamp technology. Thanks to its compactness, lower cost of ownership and environmental friendly composition, UV LEDs are expected to replace traditional lamps and also open the door to many new applications, especially portable ones.

The winners of the first annual Next Generation Luminaires(tm) competition have been disclosed at Strategies in Light conference(SIL) in Santa Clara, California, February 18-20, 2009. The awards recognize excellence in the design of energy-efficient LED luminaires for general illumination, using white light in commercial lighting applications.

Macroblock launches a new 40V PWM-embedded 3-channel constant current LED driver, MBI6030, for LED architectural lighting applications. MBI6030 may cascade over 250 RBG LED clusters or large LED pixels at a distance of 2 meters between two clusters or pixels.
