Nitride Semiconductors Focuses on UV LED Chip and Package Efficiency

Nitride Semiconductors, the second global leading UV LED manufacturer, displayed its LED package, chip and module designs at IR+UV EXPO 2015 this year, which took place recently at Pacifico Yokohama, Japan.

Nichia is ahead of the competition in the UV LED market with about 20% market share in the UV-ALED market followed by Nitride Semiconductors.

Nitride Semiconductors specializes in UV LED chip, package, module, and optic designs to provide clients comprehensive solutions. To provide comprehensive solutions to clients, Nitride Semiconductors has introduced 4-inch wafer production to provide 1.4mmx1.4mm high power LED chip products, which can emit 350 nm wavelengths when driven under 1000 mA to peak at 1050 mW. The chips deliver a relatively solid performance, with luminous efficacy External Quantum Efficiency (EQE) reaching over 30%.

To meet market demands, the company has released silicon glue and quartz package products. Currently, Nitride Semiconductors quartz package products have a relatively long lifetime of approximately 40,000 hours. Taking costs into consideration, the silicon glue package products also have a lifetime of about 5,000 hours.

The LED light modules are suitable for metal detection applications with their wavelength range of 365 nm and irradiation distance of 600 mm. Other applications for the product include air purifiers, by combining the photocatalyst with the UV LED and titanium dioxide layer, the product can become antibacterial, dust-proof and clean the air. The product has been successfully introduced into clients’ product applications.
