German Institute Lit up with Interactive LEDs from Traxon

As part of the new RWTH Campus in Aachen, Germany, dynamic lighting installations, which are characteristic for both buildings, have been installed on the nearby façades of the Fraunhofer Institutes for Laser Technology (ILT) and Product Technology (IPT). In daylight, aesthetic artworks by German artist Annette Sauermann illuminate the outside of the buildings. As soon as it gets dark, over 200 Traxon String animate the art with dynamic colors, transforming them into a spectacular eye-catcher. Around 25 Butler S2 units control the installation. Inspired by the picture of a neural network, the lighting reflects the activities that happen inside, as the installation is linked to the Institute’s intranet. What is shown on the outside is therefore an abstract reproduction of the internal structure. The straight lines on the ILT building symbolize laser beams, whereas the round shapes on the IPT façade show the rotary movements of erosion and grinding processes. On the one hand, the combination of the two highlights emphasizes the relationship between the two institutes, and on the other hand the autonomy of the two. The interactive LED lighting solution of the Fraunhofer Institute provides both buildings with a strong identity as part of the newly developed RWTH campus.
