New Bioraytron UV-C LED with Upgraded Light Extraction Efficiency Expands DUV Disinfection Market

The 9th BioOpto Japan took place in Tokyo on 4-6th October 2017. Partaking in this event, noted UV/IR LED manufacturer HPLighting showcased its proprietary technologies that represent the company’s three major edges over others: deep knowledge in optical design, advanced technology supporting the development and manufacture, and close collaboration with chip makers. LEDinside interviewed HPLighting general manager Charles Wei at BioOpto Japan 2017 on the company’s progress in UV and IR LED development.

Bioraytron B35 UV-C LED series products, package size (3.5mm x 3.5mm), provide the best choice for sterilization. B35 series package in accordance with the best overall combination of the light pattern of UV-C LED chip and packaging materials, by a state-of-the-art high purified quartz optical lens and high heat conductivity copper substrate packaging architecture, effectively enhances the light extraction efficiency. At the same time with three viewing angle options of 120 ° / 90 ° / 60 ° to be choose can be designed for different environment applications in the range wavelength of 265-275nm / 275-285nm to achieve the most effective sterilization irradiance (mW/cm2) and dose. B35 UV-C LED products currently offer mainstream 20mA / 30mA / 50mA / 100mA / 150mA driven current products, which have reached in between 2mW to 20mW power output and are expected to launch 350mA and multi chips specifications which will achieve for greater than 100mW output by the end of 2017. B35 UV-C LED will provide customers with simpler way to design module products, with the most effective sterilization time and with the best price/performance in order to accelerate the popularity of UV-C deep ultraviolet sterilization market.

Bioraytron is a joint venture co-funded by Epileds and HPLighting that covers businesses vertically integrated across the manufacture of epi-wafers and chips, to the marketing and distribution of UV-C LED packages and modules. Wei expressed that end applications suppliers also view UV-C LEDs as value added products; therefore, a variety of static water and air purifiers rolled out in the market in 2017, escalating the demand for UV-C LED. That also finalized the selling price of UV-C LED at a rate of USD 1-3/mW so as to bear more related products and increase the market demand. More suppliers in the market of flowing water sterilizers and purifiers have also been actively testing their UV-C LED technologies.

At present, Bioraytron UV-C LED sterilization products have been successfully applied on the consumer industries including household appliances, food processing, sanitary ware, kitchen ware, 3C and health industry. In 2018, it is planed to enter home water purifier, medical sterilization and high-tech water purifier industry.
