Light and Building 2018: A Deeper Look into Upstream LED Manufacturers

Lextar

Highlights of Lextar for this year are high-power LED modules, LEDs for slim luminaire, and IR sensor modules. In particular, the new IR sensor modules were showcased for the first time. They feature 3D image recognition and can be used in 3D cameras. In addition to that, the company also showcased its automotive LEDs.

Last year, Lextar devoted itself to improving profitability and has significantly optimized its product portfolio. It intends to produce lighting modules and high-end display backlight products with more advanced technologies. Meanwhile, it will also start the mass production of Mini LED and VCSEL for 3D sensing.

Also, its new factory in Chuzhou, Anhui has been settled. The equipment is scheduled to be installed in March and the operation will start in 2Q18 for pilot runs. Chuzhou factory will become its third production base in Mainland China after the Suzhou factory and the Xiamen factory.

In the LED industry, even though the market has become a “red ocean,” the industrial and special lighting segments still see plenty of opportunities. Lextar will focus on four application fields: display, lighting, automotive area and advanced optoelectronic application to increase additional value of both technology and premium services.

Nationstar

In particular, those panel lights earned a favorable reception across the world, said a Nationstar staff. The company expected the demand will increase this year. With that positive result, it aims to push up its market share in spaces of commercial and industrial lighting.

Nationstar also expressed that it will continue to refine its manufacturing technology, ramp up the capacity, and strengthen its brand building in the global lighting market. Together with its subsidiaries in both Germany and the States, the company will also offer technical services to meet local needs.

Tongyifang Optoelectronic Technology (TYF)

Tongyifang Optoelectronics showcased products including COB, flip COB, dimming COB, COB with high luminous efficacy, automotive lighting source, DOB, 3030 LED and high power LED. They are suitable for applications such as outdoor lighting, intelligent lighting, and indoor high-end lighting.

In 2018, Tongyifang keeps seeking new applications for COB while maintaining its position in the COB market. Meanwhile, it also develops products for horticultural lighting, UV LED, and IR LED.

Via Light and Building 2018, Tongyifang expected to attract more customers and increase its exposure in Europe.

WELLMAX

WELLMAX introduced the iDAPT technology, aiming to improve eye-comfort and light quality. It allows the bulb to gradually light-up instead of instantly reaching 100% luminosity when switched on, offering a smoother lighting experience for the human eyes and protecting the eyes from the sudden change of luminosity.

In particular, the technology received a lot of positive feedbacks from visitors looking to develop partnerships with the company to enter the European market.

The company also showcased its LED filament bulbs with patented filaments provided by Samsung Electronics. LED filament bulb will be one of the main businesses WELLMAX plans to develop in the European lighting market in 2018.

Dow Performance Silicones

Dow Performance Silicones rolled out a new product brand name—DOWSIL—for its heritage Dow Corning high-performance silicone-based building products. The new brand name represents the combined power of Dow and Dow Corning and emphasizes longstanding global expertise in silicone technologies across dozens of industries.

It can also be used in automotive lighting. The DOWSIL MS-1002 Moldable Silicone is a highly transparent material that processes easily at room temperature and exhibits very low viscosity before cure. Combined with its high elongation and tear strength and easy demolding performance, these qualities significantly expand design possibilities for fabrication of complex shapes, micro-scale optical structures, multifunctional parts, and undercuts that are difficult to achieve with organic polymers.

MechaTronix

LED cooling solution provider MechaTronix showcased its newly-developed CoolStar LED coolers. The company announced at the beginning of this year to create better-looking coolers and the CoolStar family, with a high-end, snowflake-like look, did impress visitors at the booth. The CoolStar family covers the whole range of cooling capacity from 1000 lumen all the way up to 6000 lumen, which positions them as well in the spot light developments as in the down light and shop light luminaires.
