【SID Display Week 2019】Industry Players Demonstrate Display Technology Breakthroughs

The 56th SID Display Week 2019 kicked off on May 14 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California, USA. This year LEDinside also joined the event to share the first hand updates in the display industry.

Exhibitors across the world have presented their latest developments in display products. Display producers keep their focus on developing differentiated products to target niche market for avoiding price competition. Foldable mobile phones, flexible OLED TVs, flexible automotive panels, transparent displays and light field holographic displays are popular display applications at Display Week this year.

Foldable mobile phones
Flexible panel has been one of the focuses in the display industry in 2019 with Samsung, Huawei and other leading brands demonstrating foldable smartphones, posing flexible OLED panels and technologies the core of the show. As a result, panel makers and material providers displayed their advanced technology solutions for flexible OLED panels to meet the rising needs.

Flexible OLED TVs
Apart from foldable mobile phones, flexible OLED TV panels are also highlighted by Korean exhibitors during Display Week 2019. In addition to an 88-inch 8K OLED TV, LG Display also turned flexible OLED panels into rose petal to attract visitors.

Curved automotive displays
Automobile manufacturers around the world continue to diversified their vehicles and automotive displays are a big target. In order to meet the requests, panel producers have adopted various technologies to create next-generation automotive displays with curved panels. LG Display implemented curved LCD panel and direct LED backlight to design automotive dashboard. AUO from Taiwan also exhibited a central control panel with curved LCD with Mini LED backlight.

Transparent display
Improvement of IoT and related technologies enable unlimited applications for displays. Thus, technology of transparent displays becomes a featured development of several panel manufacturers. Tianma and PlayNitride demonstrated transparent displays adopting Micro LED technology respectively. Both of their RGB full color Micro LED-based transparent displays achieved a more than 50 percent transparency.

Light filed holographic displays
Holographic technology allows display makers to create a whole new model of display with projection technology. Maybe soon we will be able to project our screen into a 3D hologram to create vivid experiences with holographic displays. LG Display presented its light field holographic technology to show a 3D hologram.
