Targeting the rising trend of indoor and vertical farming, horticulture lighting becomes a major focus for many lighting manufactures and Osram is one of them. The high tech company acquired Fluence Bioengineering, a US-based LED grow light supplier, in 2018. The company has launched LED horticultural lighting solutions in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) with supports by Osram.
According to Osram, Fluence’s staple full-spectrum LED lighting systems enable growers to achieve higher yields and higher quality than traditional horticultural lighting in greenhouse and multi-layer cultivation.
ECF Farmsystems from Berlin, an urban aquaponics innovator, installed a Fluence vertical farm solution to grow basil plants and noted that the lighting helped them to increase production while prevent pests and diseases. A Swedish grower also reported that the light allowed its potted herbs and leafy greens to grow near the Arctic Circle with advanced efficiency and quality.

Meanwhile, as more countries and states legalize cannabis cultivation, demands for LED grow light continues to grow with the expanding market. Fluence as a market leader in LED lighting for the medical cannabis market in the US also engineered its lighting solutions following regulations of the EU.
Timo Bongartz, general manager of Fluence by Osram leading the EMEA team, said, “The Fluence by Osram brand combines the reliability and global reach of Osram with the agile and innovative product portfolio of Fluence, to address the unique needs of European growers and researchers when it comes to major concerns such as seasonality, plant uniformity and consistency.”
