Power management company Eaton, a 2016 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year, today announced that its light-emitting diode (LED) products received three prestigious Next Generation LuminairesTM (NGL) Solid-State Lighting (SSL) Design Competition awards and two LIGHTFAIR® International (LFI) Innovation Awards®. Fluence Bioengineering, a photobiology design and manufacturing company, has developed an indoor and greenhouse lighting system with an efficacy above 2.0 micromoles per joule (µmol/J) according to replicate, collaborative testing conducted by Rutgers University and Utah State University. The testing found that the VYPRx PLUS had a 21 percent and 58 percent greater efficacy than the leading 1000-watt double-ended and single-ended high pressure sodium (HPS) fixtures respectively, and better than any of the LED technologies studied in an economic analysis of greenhouse lighting paper by Nelson and Bugbee1.

Energy Focus, Inc. The 4-day Taiwan International Lighting Show and LED Taiwan 2016 held at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center formally started today (April 13). The Bureau of Foreign Trade, Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), and Taiwan Lighting Fixture Export Association jointly organized the Taiwan International Lighting Show (TILS). Meanwhile, TAITRA and SEMI Taiwan also joined forces for the third time to host LED Taiwan. These exhibits attracted a total of 238 exhibitors and companies from 9 countries and provided a total of 748 stalls, making it the largest and most professional exhibit in Taiwan for professional illumination technologies and applications. It is expected to attract 16,000 visitors, professionals, and potential buyers.

Cree, Inc. announced an agreement with Pilot Flying J, the largest operator of travel centers in North America, to install indoor and outdoor LED lighting at select locations. The agreement provides for a retrofit of interior and exterior lighting, to include parking lot canopies, downlights and area luminaires for various new and existing travel centers. The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) announced that ANSI Accredited Standards Committee C12 revised ANSI C12.1-2014 Code for Electricity Metering. This standard establishes acceptable performance criteria for new types of alternating current (ac) watthour meters, demand meters, demand registers, pulse devices, and auxiliary devices. It describes acceptable in-service performance levels for meters and devices used in revenue metering.
