Lextar Launches Upgraded Mini LED Backlight Products for TV and Automotive Display Applications

Lextar introduced the technologies adopted in its new I-Mini LED backlight products including COB, DOB and microlens array. By bonding Mini LED flip chip directly onto driver substrate, the COB (Chip on Board) technology achieves ultra-thin design with zero optical distance. And with DOB (Driver on Board) technology, Lextar integrated driver ICs and micro control unit on substrate so that one driver IC can control five times more dimming zones. In this way, Lextar successfully reduced the utilization of driver IC by 50%. In addition, with advanced microlens array technology, Lextar enlarged the beam angle of Mini LED to over 160 degree, realizing a brightness of 1,600 nits, which is three times brighter compared to conventional backlit displays.

Lextar also upgraded its 17.3-inch and 34-inch Mini LED backlight products and cut off the usage of Mini LED chips by 20%. Based on enhanced optical design, Lextar reached the goal of reduce the cost while maintaining the same display performance.

Lextar’s new products will be adopted in Mini LED backlit TVs. The 65-inch I-Mini Blue TV backlight product uses about 20,000 units Mini LED chips to form over 1,000 local dimming zones. The company also launched a 12.3-inch automotive backlight display with over 360 dimming zones based on special materials which enables a lifetime of 50,000 hours. The same design will be used for nautical instruments as well.
