Back-metal is required on a wide range of Semiconductors devices to form a solderable die attach metal stack to ensure good electrical contact to the chip (ohmic contact) or proper bonding of the chips to their mounting cases. Power devices such as High Brightness Light Emitting Diodes (HB LED) require backside metal for an improved and reliable thermal conductivity. These metal layers are deposited using RF or DC sputtering and electron beam evaporation.

Having further developed its successful Phaser 3000, Osram has added the Phaser 500 to its portfolio and is continuing to develop this laser-excited phosphor technology which was first introduced in 2012. The upgraded phaser with a record luminance of 3700 cd/mm² and smaller size compared to the predecessor version can be used in optical fibers with a diameter of less than one millimeter. Phaser 500 is therefore ideal for endoscopy, boroscopy and measurement applications that require a particularly high luminance.
